Gio’s Cares is the registered charitable organization of the Oscar Wilde Memorial Society, Inc. (Gio’s Club and Bar). Founded in 1992, Gio’s Cares is administered by a volunteer board of directors. It also has a Goodwill Ambassador who works as part of the team. It has no paid staff.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS. The funds we raise go directly toward the promotion of safer sex education, prevention, and testing, and the provision of supplies.
Among those we work with are Nine Circles Community Health Centre, Health Sciences Centre, Artemis Housing Co-op, and House of Hesed. Through these and other agencies, we provide support for a food bank, a light meal program, and, especially, warm winter clothing and personal items. These organizations evaluate their clients’ needs in a confidential manner and are welcome to our support.
Unfortunately, the need often outweighs the resources. Gio’s Cares receives some financial donations but its board and volunteers raise the majority of funds by holding fundraising activities such as a country & western-themed steak & corn roast and dance, spaghetti suppers, theme nights featuring various eras, car washes, garage sales, and silent auctions. We also barbeque many times throughout the year at Gio’s Club and Bar.
Donations of $10.00 or more are eligible for an official tax receipt.
We wish to thank you all for supporting us in our fundraising.
